How to play 2048 Cupcakes

  1. Use the arrow keys, WASD, swipe the board, or tap the direction buttons to slide every cupcake in one direction.
  2. Two matching cupcakes that meet merge into the next cupcake. Their number doubles and is added to your score.
  3. A new tile appears after each move that changes the board. Each tile can merge only once during a move.
  4. Reach the 2048 cupcake to win, then keep playing if you like. The game ends when the board is full and no neighboring tiles can merge.

A few tips to get you going

  • Pick a corner for your largest cupcake. Build toward it so smaller tiles do not trap it in the middle.
  • Keep an open row or column when you can. Empty space gives you more ways to bring matching cupcakes together.
  • Think through the whole board before swiping. Undo is useful for studying a move that did not go as planned.

How do you play 2048 Cupcakes?

Slide the board with arrow keys or swipe on a phone. Matching cupcakes merge and double their value. Keep merging until you reach 2048.

Can I keep playing after 2048?

Yes. Reaching 2048 is a milestone. Choose to continue and work toward larger tiles for as long as you have moves left.

Does 2048 Cupcakes work on a phone?

Yes. Swipe directly on the board or use the on-screen direction buttons. Numbers remain visible on the cupcakes so matching does not depend on color alone.

Is this the original 2048 Cupcakes?

This is our independent implementation of the 2048 sliding puzzle, with original cupcake illustrations. It is not the original 2048-CUPCAKES project and does not use its artwork.

Inspired by the 2048 game mechanic popularized by Gabriele Cirulli. Our implementation and cupcake illustrations are original. Version 1.0. Updated September 29, 2026.
